![]() It’s cold. It’s dark out at 4:00 pm. It’s day three of winter vacation for the kids and they are already bored with snow. This year you decided to keep on budget and not travel to warmer climates. How can you make your Winter Staycation fun for everyone? Play inside – Dig out those old board games or buy used ones at a Goodwill or other thrift store. Invite your friends and neighbors over for laughter and competition. Have them bring games so you have a variety to choose from.
Play outside – If the kids are bored with the snow in your yard, move the fun to a sledding hill or build a snowman at a local park. Find some snowshoes and go for a hike. Get together with neighbors for s’mores and a campfire. How about a scavenger hunt? Visit a museum – Look online for traveling exhibits, coupons for admission, and special presentations. Also look for factory tours nearby. Go to the movies – It’s wonderful and convenient to watch movies at home, but there still is something special about going to a movie theater, buying a treat or two, feeling the energy of the crowd, and losing yourself in a film. Look for discount coupons online. Build something – How about a small project? Build a birdhouse. Make a cake from scratch. Have the kids create a craft. Volunteer – How about delivering some food to the food shelf or helping to organize a project? Contact your favorite non-profit to see how you can help, or look in your local paper. Go bowling, swimming, take an art class, create a challenge, start that book, clean out that closet (but then reward yourself with a fun activity!), watch or participate in sports, and just relax. It’s all good – you CAN enjoy your Winter Staycation!
