3/2/2022

A mobile phone with a text message on the screen and a stamp saying FAKE! across the text message.
We share true stories of member experiences and information to help you avoid falling victim to a scam. If you ever have questions about the validity of a request for money or information about your account, contact us.

Tax season is here, which unfortunately means tax scams are on the rise. Read on to learn how to recognize some of the tactics criminals use, and don’t fall victim to a tax scam.

The IRS will never:
  • Use email, texting, or social media channels to request personal or financial information
  • Demand immediate payment using a specific payment method such as a prepaid debit card, gift card, or wire transfer
  • Threaten to immediately have you arrested
  • Demand you pay taxes without giving you the opportunity to appeal the amount owed
  • Call unexpectedly about a tax refund
Learn to recognize the signs of fraud. Review tax scams and consumer alerts provided by the IRS.

Remember! If you suspect someone is trying to scam you, don’t share any of your financial or personal information. Delete the message or hang up without replying to their questions. And if you’re ever in doubt, contact us. We’re trained to spot scams and are here to help keep you and your funds safe. You can also visit our security page for more tips.
